Thomas M. Krummel, M.D.

Dr. Krummel serves as Emile Holman Professor and Chair Emeritus of the Department of Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine as well as Susan B. Ford Surgeon-in-Chief at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. He is also co-director of the Biodesign Innovation Program at Stanford. During his distinguished career, Dr. Krummel has been a pioneer in the application of information technology to simulation-based surgical training and robotics. He directed one of the first National Institute of Health Phased Innovation programs that developed collaborative-based simulation systems and was awarded two Smithsonian Information Technology Innovators Awards for his work. He also helped jump start the study of cellular and biochemical mechanisms of scar-less repair in fetuses, receiving more than $3 million in research funding during his career.
