Internationally Recognized Foundation Executive and Strategic Planner Peter deCourcy Hero Joins the Fogarty Institute for Innovation

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., November 4, 2014 - Peter deCourcy Hero joins the Fogarty Institute for Innovation as the Chief Development Officer. The Fogarty Institute for Innovation is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit that promotes medical innovation by providing support to promising innovators and researchers as they transform their creative ideas into practical solutions to improve patient care.

Hero has had a very successful business career as an entrepreneur, and also spent 17 years as CEO of Community Foundation Silicon Valley. There he took a small organization with total assets of just $8M and built it into Silicon Valley's $1.4B regional "Center on Philanthropy." In an extended article on Peter's leadership in Silicon Valley, Fortune Magazine wrote "It is Peter Hero, more than anyone else, who has shown Silicon Valley how to channeling the area's distinctive culture into an unusual brand of charity: demanding, ambitious, self-conscious, creative, even risky--everything you would expect from Silicon Valley."

Peter has also served on numerous corporate, public, and family foundation Boards, including The Skoll Foundation, PBS, Pax-Vax, Stanford Social Innovation Review, Ebay Foundation, Sesame Workshop, Sobrato Foundation, The Entrepreneurs' Foundation and the Council on Foundations. At the Council he chaired the Ford Foundation/World Bank Committee on community development strategies in 3rd world countries. His latest book, Local Mission, Global Vision: Community Foundations in the 21st Century was published by the Foundation Center in New York and translated into four languages.
